“El raro”
For this project, I revisited places in my childhood as a way of confronting difficult memories and trauma.
We captured these familiar but now somewhat foreign places, exploring how they've changed and how my relationship to them has evolved.
Some of these locations triggered painful emotions, but through the process of revisiting and photographing them, I can begin to gain a new sense of control and understanding over my past experiences.
“El raro" is a Spanish phrase that translates to "the weird one" or "the odd one" - which is how I felt growing up in my hometown of Barking and Dagenham.
Ultimately, this collection of images serves not only as a record of my physical journey, but also as a testament to my emotional resilience and growth.
Thank you to Gabe Kahn for your help creating these images.
