Yashica Mono 400
In late 2023 I was contacted by Yashica who offered to send over a roll of their brand new black and white film stock Mono 400 for me to try. I love shooting film and I *ESPECIALLY* love shooting free film and I am super grateful for Yashica trusting me and sending over a roll for me to do my thing with. Given my predisposition for wanting people (or in this case Yashica) to really really like me, in an effort to demonstrate as many of my favourite styles of photography as possible, I set about shooting the most diverse roll of film since I first purchased my vintage Electro 35 camera.
With these 10 frames I tried to show “a bit of everything of what I like'“ about film photography. The subjects. The compositions. The roll/set also unintentionally became a really nice little snapshot of my life and some of the lovely people and places in it - all beautifully rendered on this 400 speed, fine grain black and white film which as you can see handled the myriad conditions I put it through including natural light, indoors in low-light and even pitch black for the winter solstice celebrations in frame 5.
Just to say, that all thoughts and opinions on this post are my own. From how impressed I was with the versatility of this film-stock to how much I loved the beautiful ‘Mono 400’ font on the packaging. This film will absolutely be a fixture in the next year where I am shooting exclusively black and white.
Thanks again, Yashica I really appreciate the opportunity 🖤🤍
